Audreyanne Covarrubias
Audreyanne Covarrubias is a microbiologist, former professional dancer, and Pilates instructor with a deep love for Korean traditional drumming. In 1997, she moved to Pusan to dance in the production at the Lotte Hotel, Pusan Fantasy Theatre where she discovered the Janggu drum. Over the subsequent years, she dedicated herself to mastering the instrument—teaching drum and Samulnori classes and founding the Northern California team, Changgu Samulnori.
Joining OngDance Company as an accompanist playing the Janggu in 2013, Audreyanne has performed at venues including the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House, in productions such as the Goldman Environmental Awards and World Arts West’s San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival (earning an Isadora Duncan Dance Award in 2018), Oakland Museum of California’s Lunar New Year festival on multiple occasions, multiple San Francisco Korea Day Cultural Festivals, and several productions in Samsung Hall at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum as well as productions at the University of California, Santa Barbara Multicultural Center, San Jose State University where OngDance Company shared the stage with Kim Duk Soo Samulnori Team.
Now performing at KoreaFeast for the first time, she looks forward to sharing her passion for Korean drumming.
